Looking For Your Next Court Date?

Checking to see if you are scheduled to appear in court, or maybe your looking on the defendant behalf , there are few ways to lookup your court date.

It is always important that you attend all of the scheduled court dates.

Failing to show up to court at the scheduled time and date can cause for you to forfeit your case and you will be liable for any fines, or even have a warrant for your arrest. Many courts allow people to look up their court dates online in order to improve appearances.

Connecticut has an online database “Case Look-up” to lookup upcoming court dates. Local court clerks will commonly update the database regularly.
To use the “Case Look-up”, you will need at least the first and last name of the defendant.

When using the “Case Look- Up”, you can search by the party name or by the case number, this will provide all the upcoming court dates on that case.

Sometimes it’s may be necessary to reschedule your court date for different reasons. The court has no obligation to approve the request, you still have the right to make the request. There must be a good reason or your request will be considered insignificant and could be denied.

Can You Come into Court Late?

If you find you are running late to your court date, don’t skip the court date. Even if you are going to late, not showing up will cause the judge to charge you with failure to appear and issue a warrant for your arrest.

Contact the court clerks office by phone so that they know you are still coming. When you appear, expect to be harshly reminded that you are severely about being on time.

Can I Change My Connecticut Court Date?

If you can not make your court date for a Connecticut court case, you should promptly call the case coordinator clerk at that Superior Court clerk’s office. The case coordinator clerk is the one in charge of all the court case scheduling. They could tell you on how to correctly request a new court date.

If you had signed for someone’s bail bonds, and you don’t think they’ll will appear in court.

Can I get off of the bail bonds?

Once you become the signer for someone’s bail bonds, you legally become the indemnitor and are fully responsible for the full amount of the bail bonds while the bond remains active

The bail bonds agent trusts the certainty of the signer at the time they take the accountability for their loved one or a friend.
The signer knows the defendant personally, where the bail bonds agent doesn’t.

The signer cannot change their mind about the signing for the defendant from one day to another. The signer must be completely confident at the time they are signing for the bond, or else, they should never take the risk, as there is no going back. Once the defendant upholds all of their court dates and the courts responsibilities, the bail bond will be exonerated and the bail bonds agent and the signer will no longer have any further responsibilities.

It’s important reminder that the bail premium is never refundable in any condition, the premium is earned by the bail bonds company for their service rendered at the time of the release of the defendant. Even if the court case is dismissed or the charges were dropped, the bail bonds premium paid to the bail bonds agency is always non-refundable.

When signing a bail bonds contract, the indemnitor (you) will take on the following responsibilities:

First of all responsibility is that the indemnitor (you), with the assistant of the bail bonds company, will make sure the defendant appears to everyone of their court dates without fail.

If the defendant fail to appear in court, you will also be responsible of paying additional fees, if the bail bonds company has to hire a fugitive recovery agent to help bring the defendant back to court.

Lastly, if the defendant can’t be located, the indemnitor (you) will be made entirely responsible to pay for the full amount of the bail bonds originally set by the court. If any collateral was taken at the time of signing of the bail bonds contract, that will be used to pay towards the bond and will not be returned.

When someone fail to go back to court, the judge will issue what is called as a “bench warrant” for their arrest. The bail that was originally paid will be forfeited and a recovery agent will be contacted to locate the person who has skipped bail.
